Exterior Light Bulb Replacement

Exterior Home Lighting Design has greatly progressed in its technology over the last 10+ years. Many older and existing exterior home lighting designs rely on slightly outdated Halogen Bulbs. Why is this important? The Lifespan of Halogen exterior light bulbs is significantly less than new cutting edge LED Lighting systems. At Night Light Systems of North Carolina, we offer up to date LED bulb replacement and Halogen bulb replacement. In most cases, it is usually more efficient to update your old Halogen bulbs to LED. Halogen VS LED Lighting for Exterior Home Lighting – Which is Better?

LED Lighting

LED Lighting has greatly improved over the last decade, especially for home exterior lighting. Here are some direct advantages for using LED Lighting in your exterior home landscape design:

  1. Energy Efficiency & Cost: LEDs use significantly less wattage for the same brightness, with a 25W LED often replacing a 150W halogen, greatly reducing electricity bills. While LEDs can have a higher upfront installation cost, they are more cost-effective long-term due to lower energy usage and fewer replacements.

2. Lifespan & Maintenance: LED bulbs can last up to 50,000+ hours, compared to only 2,000–5,000 hours max for halogen bulbs. This makes LEDs ideal for hard-to-reach outdoor fixtures, reducing maintenance hassle.

3. Safety: Halogen bulbs can become very hot, which can burn nearby foliage or cause a fire hazard. LEDs stay cool to the touch and operate safely.

4. Light Quality: Halogen provides a very warm, yellowish light (approx. 2700K–3000K), while LED technology offers a broader range of color temperatures, from warm white to crisp daylight.

5. Durability: LED fixtures are solid-state and generally more resistant to vibration, moisture, and extreme temperatures, making them better suited for harsh outdoor environments that are required for exterior home lighting design.

Halogen Lighting

  1. Light Quality: If you prefer a very classic, warm, traditional glow, halogen is right for you.
  2. Cost: halogen bulbs are cheaper to purchase upfront, but drain much more energy over time and can raise your electricity rates.

When To Choose?

  • Choose LED: For safety lighting, landscape accenting, pathway lighting, and areas where you want to save money on energy and avoid frequent bulb changes.
  • Choose Halogen: If you prefer a very specific, warm, traditional color temperature that some designers prefer for high-end aesthetics and are not concerned with higher energy consumption or frequent replacements.
